Madara Cosmetics

Almost every Latvian knows the name Madara. Firstly, because it is a very healing plant generously growing in the meadows during midsummer (one of the flowers women place in their wreaths). But it is not just the healing properties of this herbal plant, Madara, that people know. It is the name of one of the first and biggest natural cosmetics brands in Latvia that is also present in so many countries worldwide.

I remember their beginning as it was today — with a few skincare products that, in years, have grown from a few products for skincare routines to shampoos, body care, and cosmetics. I have always been keen on using their shampoos (growth line particularly), fake tan cream (one of the best), and decorative cosmetics from powders to lipsticks and cosmic drops.

The brand was founded in 2006 by Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnere after spending her childhood picking herbs and plants, following the footsteps of her grandmother, growing into something much deeper in understanding nature’s treasures that can be turned into sustainable and natural cosmetics, working in partnership with biologists and dermatologists.

With birth water, plant stem cells, northern bedstraw (the plant madaras in Latvian) plant extracts, chanterelle extracts, and seed oils from northern berries used as basis (yes, also in cosmetics), Madara, as a pioneer in Latvia, showed how one could turn nature force into nurturing one’s skin.

So, when it comes to washing my hands, fake-tanning my skin, putting on lipstick, bronzer or foundation, it is so many times that I turn to the strength of where my roots come from — the Baltic nature in a tube with Madara’s name on it. The girls like to put on those adorable cosmic drops, while, I like to spray my hair with silk spray after I have washed the hair and nurtured it with Madara hair mask.
