Bodegas Martín Códax

I walked a few steps from the car and looked around, and there it was - the valley (they call it that) and ocean with mussel farms. I looked at the house just over my shoulder and there it was - the modern winery of Bodegas Martín Códax. A winery like no other, standing on a hill overlooking the valley and ocean, I thought it must be so nice to work here. A glass of brut sparkling wine appeared in my hand, and as I listened to stories about the house, I could not stop looking towards the furthest point I could see, soaking up the day's sun, ocean breezes, and the stories.

Martin Codax is a cooperative consisting of many, many families of winegrowers who knew that coming together was the best way to produce wine and show the world how beautiful wines from Rias Baixas can be. Their wine portfolio, architecture, location, and passionate dedication are nearly perfect, resembling the innovation that Spain loves so much and the tradition that is the core of the winemaking and preserving the uniqueness of the region.

I sat there at the tasting of 12 wines and placed them in the cart that my mind created of all the wines I would like to order. Each and every one of them shined with character, yet never lost its regional typicality. So, while I still have my list and hope to order those wines to enjoy at home in France, I keep the dearest memories in my head of this visit, which was not only perfect in every sip but beyond stunning in every bite that we had sitting at the table that overlooked the ocean.
