Alphonse Mellot La Moussiere Sancerre

Alphonse Mellot La Moussiere Sancerre

When you say Sauvignon Blanc, I will usually say no. When you say Sancerre, I will ask about it and then decide because Sauvignon Blanc is not my favorite grape. But when its made by the Alphonse Mellot family, I always say yes. I've come to discover that they produce one of the world’s top Sancerre wines, praised by many critics. Their excellence was mentioned as early as the 16th century. It’s no wonder this wine is the foundation of their house. It is beyond what you would expect.

“Predominantly honest in a welcoming balance, it reflects a pretty grape, a fine harvest in the singing and laughter of the men and women pickers. It tells us of work well done in the divine order and Nature's kindness. It is fair, and all one expected and to cap it all there is happiness there,” says their website, and you can feel it in the wine. The laughter as they harvest, the power and elegance of the grapes. Fish, saffron, creamy sauce, braised ham, olives, crab, goat milk, buttery pastries — all these dishes would be perfect pairings as it is very fruity and flowery.
