Deux Montille 1er Cru Les Porusots 2008

He arrived home with this bottle of wine straight from Burgundy (winemaker’s family cellar). The name De(ux) Montille reassured that the wine would be beyond its expectations, but it was much more when opened. Its deep yellow colour, intense taste, and millions of notes that exploded from the glass made me close my eyes and sit in silence for a while. That dinner was on the simpler side, so it made me even a bit ashamed that we had opened wine this precious to serve it with, but this wine was what made this dinner extra special.

It is not a secret that wines from Meursault surprise everyone, even those who no longer prefer wines from there. I am not one of them, not yet, and although I have had my share of beautiful wines from Meursault in my life, this one surprised me. The wine alone almost felt like a meal. Its strength, its character, and its backbone so strong that it made me appreciate good winemaking even more. Yellow fruits, white flowers, butter, honey, orange, elegance, minerality, and acidity. For me, perfect to pair with sole in a creamy sauce, chicken in a creamy sauce, Comté, and walnuts. But, honestly, I would drink it with just about everything, forgetting about the food and enjoying every sip of wine.
